Description

Responsibilities of Role

  • Constructs, installs and maintains computer software and networks.
  • Investigates problems and provides solutions.
  • Trials programmes on the computer.
  • Maintains records of software and hardware equipment.

  • Trains data processing staff.

Required Qualifications/Experience

A degree, diploma and/or computer programming and repair work experience is helpful.

Systems Analyst/Programmer

Description

Analyses the systems and procedures of an organisation, researches data-processing needs and problems. Develops appropriate systems and procedures.

Responsibilities of Role

  • Consults with senior management to determine the data processing requirements.
  • Investigates the possibilities of new systems and makes alterations to existing systems.
  • Determines whether new hardware or software applications are required.
  • Monitors input data and suggests modifications for more effective input to computer.
  • Prepares cost estimates for systems options.
  • Develops charts and diagrams illustrating how work is done and provides specifications.
  • Trials new systems and makes necessary alterations.
  • Trains new systems users.

Required Qualifications/Experience

A degree is usually preferred, previous computer programming and analytical experience is helpful. On-the-job training is generally provided.

Systems Manager

Description

Monitors, manages, and ensures the effective operation of computing systems. Monitors maintenance and upgrades on systems to meet the needs of the organisation.

  • Researches the systems and procedures of an organisation to optimise performance.
  • Monitors and evaluates data flow and information needs.
  • Consults with management and technical staff to establish new systems requirements and methods of achieving these.
  • Prepares cost estimates of different systems.
  • Installs or arranges for the installation of back up and other systems processes.
  • Recovers lost documents following systems failures.
  • Train new systems users.

Required Qualifications/Experience

A degree and analytical or organisational experience is helpful. On-the-job training is usually provided.

Information Technology Manager

Description

Plans, manages, and supervises the information technology services in an organisation.

  • Forecasts future information systems requirements.
  • Submits recommendations to senior management regarding information systems upgrades.

  • Works with senior management to formulate information technology policies.
  • Ensures appropriate provisions of software application packages to fulfill the needs of the organisation.
  • Ensures appropriate support is available for staff using computing equipment.
  • Manages the financial costs, equipment, and end-user requirements of the organisations information systems.
  • Organises the installation and use of computer systems.
  • Assists with the selection of information technology staff.
  • Plans and conducts or arranges for staff training.

Required Qualifications/Experience

A degree and/or a minimum of five years experience with information systems. Technical skills and project administration experience is also helpful.
