Aim of the Course

The Certificate in Database Administration (Level 6) will enable students to study for and gain an internationally recognised qualification generally accepted as the desired requirements for progression in the IT industry.

Students who complete this certificate and related external exams are equipped for careers in database administration supporting users in small to medium sized networks.

Students will also be equipped to proceed with higher level studies if they choose. These could include a degree programme or ITTI's Diploma in Computer Network Management (Level 6).

Content

• Installing, configuring, administering and troubleshooting SQL Server 2008
• Planning and implementing disaster recovery and high availability
• Managing SQL Server databases and transactions
• Administering metadata, XML and full-text indexing
• Configuring and implementing data integrity and security

Outcome

Microsoft Certified IT Professional - MCITP: Database Administrator involving two exams:

• 70-432: TS: Microsoft SQL Server 2008, Implementation and Maintenance
• 70-450: PRO: Designing, Optimising and Maintaining a Database Administrative Solution using Microsoft SQL Server 2008

Graduates of this certificate are able to configure and administer SQL Server databases and transactions.

Microsoft's MCITP internationally recognised certification is a good indicator of proficiency and competency and can be considered a standard for potential employees. By undertaking this course and gaining the examinisations, students' skills are internationally validated and benchmarked.

Duration

12 weeks full time:
Monday - Friday 9:00 am - 1:00 pm
Monday - Friday 2:00 pm - 6:00 pm (when available)

Entry Requirements

1. Diploma in Computer Support: Service and Networks (Level 5),
   or equivalent qualifications or suitable industry experience or satisfactory performance in pre-enrolment knowledge test
2. Access to personal computer for off-campus learning (desirable)
3. IELTS overall band score of 6.0 (international students), with no band less than 6.0
4. An appropriate NZIS Student Permit to study at ITTI (international students)

Employment Opportunities

This qualification, with the corresponding Microsoft MCITP: Database Administrator certification, is internationally recognised and equips a graduate for careers as a SQL database administrator, and entry into analyst programming and database development roles.
