Diploma in Computer Network Management (Level 6)

Aim of the Course

The Diploma in Computer Network Management (Level 6) will enable students to study for and gain internationally recognised qualifications generally accepted as the desired requirements for progression in the industry.

Students who complete this diploma and related external exams will be prepared for careers as service desk technicians, and network and database administrators with specialties in Microsoft Server 2008 and SQL Server 2008, and Cisco systems.

Students will also be equipped to proceed with higher level studies if they choose. These could include a degree programme or ITTI's Diploma in Advanced Network Administration (Level 7) currently under development.

Targeted Learners

This programme of study will provide a path to further education in higher levels of the IT industry for those who have already completed lower level qualifications. It also allows those with previous employment to gain the industry recognised certifications required to further their careers.

Outcomes

The attaining of a Diploma in Computer Network Management (Level 6) demonstrates that the holder has:

  • The capability of carrying out processes that require a wide range of technical knowledge in both Microsoft and Cisco systems
  • The ability to apply appropriate methods and procedures in response to a variety of technical issues
  • Developed a broad range of knowledge with significant depth in some areas
  • The competence to continue to study towards higher level qualifications

Students will also have gained the following additional skills from undertaking the full program:

  • Experience in working with different teams of people
  • Problem solving skill development
  • The ability to identify and advise on business IT requirements
  • Employability skills which today's employers require

Microsoft's MCITP certifications and Cisco's CCNA are international qualifications that prove competence in areas such as installation and configuration of Operation Systems, preventative maintenance, networking, security and troubleshooting, software application, and database control and configuration.

The IT industry acknowledges that internationally recognised certifications such as these are a good indicator of proficiency and competency and can be considered a standard for potential employees. By undertaking these courses and gaining the examinations students' skills are validated and benchmarked.

Alternatively, students may proceed to ITTI's Diploma in Advanced Network Administration (Level 7), currently under development, or earn cross credits to a degree programme.
